Why Should I Work at Camp?

Each season we interview dozens of staff to join our summer team and our goal is always to hire the best role models for our campers that we can. We are looking for the best big brother or big sister that we can find, and that means we are hiring staff who may be majoring in something other than education in college. The young adults we are talking to are often weighing the opportunity to work at camp against an internship or another experience “related to their career goals.” There are four reasons why a job at sleepaway camp should always win out in that scenario!

  • Gain & practice valuable skills that aren’t taught in school
Summer camp is the perfect environment to learn and practice skills that employers are looking for. Linkedin recently published an article in which they say “57% of senior leaders today say soft skills are more important than hard skills.” They then go on to list the top 5 soft skills that companies are looking for. Creativity. Persuasion. Collaboration. Adaptability. Time Management. Is there a more perfect way to practice these things than the 3rd rainy day in a row at camp? All joking aside, camp is the most ideal environment to perfect these
  • Make a lasting impact
As I mentioned above, our goal is to hire the best big brothers and big sisters we can find. In being that figure to our campers you will have a lifelong impact on them. You are acting in some ways as their parent for time they are at camp. You will spend time with them conquering their fears and doing things they have never done before. There is no doubt that you will leave the summer a superhero in the eyes of your campers, and what could be better than that?
  • Form lifelong friendships
From the second you arrive you are part of the Poyntelle Family. Our staff come from all over the world, so you will be exposed to many different cultures and backgrounds. Sleepaway camp has an uncanny ability to make a 7 short weeks feel like a lifetime…in a good way. The friends you make will remain friends forever.
  • Have fun!
In what other job can you spend your day outside playing with kids and your evenings making a fool out of yourself on stage at the talent show? With all the activities offered each moment at camp is different, but the whole experience is centered around having fun.
